York record setters help team repeat as Stan Reddel Invitational champions

 

Schraer betters meet and field house record in the Pole Vault; Golomb sets 800 record and wins 600

Elmhurst, Ill – It is nice to run in your facility for the indoor season. Especially if you are York and you are running on the fast track inside of the Joe Newton Fieldhouse. The Dukes will compete at home the rest of March. They did not have their complete lineup in the Stan Reddel Invitational on Friday night. They still dominated repeating as team champion with 119 points. Naperville North (63 points) and Hersey (57.5 points) finished second and third.

 

Gavin Schaer and Brady Golomb led York with some record breaking performances. Schaer was coming back from the Proviso West Invitational where he finished second. In this meet, Schaer responded in a big way winning the Pole Vault clearing a personal best of 15-9 (IL #3) as well as setting a new fieldhouse and meet record. We have not seen the York senior at full strength using only a six step approach for the indoor season. Nathan McLoughlin of St. Charles North finished second with Eric Beedon of Naperville North clearing 14-3 to finish third.

 

This is the first season that Brady Golomb of York has run a full indoor season. The transfer from Texas has transitioned quite nicely as evidenced by his results. His two wins on Friday night were again dominating. Golomb broke away in the final section of the 800 Meter Run passing 200-meters in 27.5 and 400-meters in 55 seconds. Liam Naughton of Hersey, running in his first race of the season, started to close the gap, and getting closer to Golomb with every lap. The York senior pulled away in the final lap to run 1:55.10 (IL #4) to win. Naughton ran an impressive 1:57.09 (IL #6) to finish second. Golomb bettered the 1:55.88 that he ran on a banked track two weeks ago. Two more runners ran under two-minutes in this race. Max Zangan of York ran 1:59.01 (IL #11) to finish third ahead of Michael Wilson of St. Charles East (1:59.74).

 

Golomb doubled back in the 600 Meter Run leading wire to wire to win with a 1:24.45 (IL #3) time. Teammate Avi Shah ran 1:27.30 (IL #11) to finish second.

 

Naughton said after his second race of the meet in the 1600 Meter Run that his legs felt heavy after the first four laps of the race. He shook off that heaviness in the second half of the race to win the race. Naughton had a good double of races running 4:25.10 for the win. Tim Jochum of Glenbard South closed the gap in the final lap to run 4:26.62 to finish second holding off Carter Hayes of Palatine (4:26.69). Landen Samuelson of Hononegah ran 4:29.94 to finish fourth. Carter Olsen of York ran a huge personal best of 4:36.66 to finish fifth.

 

Before the start of the second section in the 3200 Meter Run, York High School gave tribute to former York runner and retired Distance Coach Jim Hedman. He was honored by renaming the event after him. The race run by Josiah Narayanan of Wheaton-Warrenville South in a way paying tribute to the event by running a near perfect race. Narayanan and Jaden Frederick of Glenbard South were within feet of each other for the first half of the race running 35 second per lap pace passing 1600-meters in 4:40. Narayanan kept the same pace leaving the rest of the pack. The Wheaton junior ran 9:21.79 to win the race and established a personal best by 13 seconds.

 

Seven runners in the 3200 Meter Run finished under 9:40. Alex Krieg of Palatine moved towards the front in the second half of the race running 9:26.78 to finish second. St. Charles East’s Greyson Ellensohn (9:34.95) and Jed Wilson (9:35.27) finished third and fourth. Zach Frayder of Hersey (9:36.10), Aiden Noel of Wheaton-Warrenville South (9:38.04), and York’s Zach Saltiel (9:39.98) finished fifth through seventh.

 

Da’jion Riley of Wheaton-Warrenville South continued his hot streak in the sprints running 6.55 to win the 55 Meter Dash ahead of Ayodele Bateye of St. Charles North (6.60) and Bruno Massell of York (6.67). Sam Wollak of St. Charles East broke at the break line with lead and never looked back. The freshman ran 52.24 to win by two seconds ahead of Gunnar Woetzel of St. Charles North (54.44) and Luke Van Tholen of Glenbard South (54.68). Muneeb Shah of Naperville North (23.28) edged Jaylin Miller of Willowbrook (23.34) and Danny Karnatz of York (23.51) for the win in the 200 Meter Dash.

 

Noah Heiber of Rolling Meadows ran a personal best of 7.80 (#2) to win the 55 Meter High Hurdles with Edward Mumford of Naperville North (8.17) and Luke DeSimone of York (8.18) finishing second and third. Harper Bryan of Glenbard South ran 7.50 to win the 55 Meter Low Hurdles.

 

Rockton Hononegah ran 8:33.00 to hold off Hersey (8:33.28) to win the 4x800 Meter Relay. York ran 8:37.29 to finish third. York ran 1:34.48 to win the 4x200 Meter Relay ahead of Hoffman Estates (1:34.79) and Naperville North (1:34.98). Prospect claimed the win in the 4x400 Meter Relay (3:35.76) with York running 3:37.46 to finish second.

 

Hersey swept the first two places in the Shot Put. Logan Farrell achieved a new personal best of 55-6.25 (IL #8) to win the event. Will Nolan had a 53-4.5 put to finish second. Willowbrook’s Eric Weder and Ottis Powell swept the first two places in the High Jump both clearing 6-0.75.

 

Carson Marlar of Naperville North had a personal best jump of 21-9.5 to win the Long Jump ahead of Noah Boyd of Willowbrook (21-4.25) and Arman Lepuzanovic of Rolling Meadows (21-2.25). Sophomore Jack Anderson of Rolling Meadows jumped a personal best of 43-7.5 to win the Triple Jump.
